NEW YORK, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The McGraw-Hill Companies
(NYSE: MHP) today announced it has been named to the top 10 on this year's
list of 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers by Working Mother magazine.
This is the third consecutive year that the Corporation has been honored as a
"100 Best Company" by the magazine.
In recognizing the Corporation, the magazine cited its rich portfolio of
such family-friendly resources as flexible work arrangements; childcare -
including sick care, discounted before- and after-school care, and holiday and
summer care; backup dependent care; eldercare case management; an extensive
suite of higher education planning tools and resources; and maternity,
adoption and paternity leave -- including a new paternity leave policy that
allows new dads to take three paid weeks of leave.
"I'm extremely proud that The McGraw-Hill Companies has been named one of
the top 10 Best Companies by Working Mother magazine," said Harold McGraw III,
chairman, president and CEO of The McGraw-Hill Companies. "This recognition
speaks to our commitment to helping our employees maintain a work/life balance
that both supports their professional development and meets their personal
needs. Such a work environment is essential to the continued growth and
success of our company and our people."
"Every year our winning companies raise the bar for what it means to be an
employer of choice for working families," said Carol Evans, CEO and President,
Working Mother Media. "McGraw-Hill not only offers essential benefits like
flextime and telecommuting-they go above and beyond with a range of best
practices and policies to ease the difficulties for working parents and their
families. Their supportive culture makes a huge difference to employees who
want to be great moms and great workers.
"The McGraw-Hill Companies was selected for the 2007 Working Mother 100
Best Companies based on an extensive application of 575 questions. The
application included detailed questions about workforce, compensation, child-
care and flexibility programs, leave policies and more. It also checked the
usage, availability and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of
managers who oversee them. Seven areas were measured and scored: workforce
profile, compensation, child care, flexibility, time off and leaves, family-
friendly programs, and company culture. For this year's 100 Best, particular
weight was given to flexibility and family-friendly policies.
